The Catfish.                                                       Home

Operates in the Thames Estuary from Holehaven on Canvey Island.

The vessel is permanently afloat so suffers with no tidal restrictions.

Tea coffee and Pie warming is all part of our attempt at providing a friendly environment for skilled and novice anglers alike.

The Thames estuary is renown for the Uptide style of fishing which is excellent for using modern light tackle for hard fighting species such as Bass Smooth hound and rays in the summer months and Cod Whiting and Dabs in the Winter. Although in this age of climate change we tend to find that the seasons tend to blend together and we now seem to catch rays all year round and only suffer a short 3 month break from Christmas to March in the Bass season.

I have been running a charter boat from Canvey for the past 30 years part time for the first few years and full time for the last 22 years. It all started as a boyhood dream for me and I suppose a dream Come true. I am a keen angler who has always fished and often told my customers that I built the boat for me to be able to fish in comfort and security, which of course is a bonus for them as well.

I also have another small motorboat 17ft with inboard diesel which I use to fish for Bass in the local structures (oil jetties). Which I also take chosen guests out on so they can enjoy the thrill of hooking big Bass on freelined baits in claustrophobic conditions and the mighty struggle that takes place between determined Angler and even more determined bass to get back into the Jetty piles.

As well as taking full boat bookings I am quite happy to take Anglers on an individual basis. In fact one weekend day is given over to individual anglers so that anyone who cannot get out in the week still has a chance to go fishing.

Bait and tackle can be supplied without any problem. A deposit is however required to secure a bait order or to make a boat booking.
